As more and more oil spill have been happening, there are ways that companies and the government are working to prevent spills.
How the government is getting involved
The actions that have been taking place are the creations of new laws. They unfortunately haven’t eliminated oil spill permanently, but they have reduced the accidents. These laws range from “to take greater precaution against spills and detailed emergency response plans for cleaning up spills that do occur” to having tankers being double-hulled. Safety inspections will be held in various oil activities to prevent an oil spill making sure all regulations, procedures, and laws are respected.
New Technology
As technology gets better and more advanced over time, transportation will be easier. The GPS (Global Positioning System) will always become updated and upgraded to a farther new and improved technology preventing collisions and pin point accurate locations of where an oil rig, offshore platforms, and tankers need attention for any repairs. The double-hull design for tankers are designed to withstand a collision with anything preventing the ship to sink, and most importantly to prevent an oil spill to occur.
