Many animals are effected in this polluting event in many ways. Some leading to permanent damage, and some leading to death
Birds
Birds are affected by the pollution. The oil in the ocean or shores can penetrate their feathers making it hard for them to escape from predators or to move to a different area for any needs. They can also be affected inside their bodies messing with their digestive system when consumed malfunctioning their kidneys and liver. The oil coat on the birds can affect their temperature leading them to hypothermia causing their metabolism to increase to maintain body a warm and steady body temperature. Many birds that are affected by the oil spill often die. Less than 1% of the birds affected aren’t successfully helped by human actions
Fish
Wildlife in the ocean is also affected a lot. Fish are mainly affected in an oil spill. Many young fish and fish eggs are damaged and often lead to death. Algae, fish, crustaceans, and other species in the oceanic wildlife are often tainted to the point of death.
Marine Mammals
Marine mammals are affected as well. Whales such as dolphins are affected by being poisoned by the oil damaging their digestive system causing bacterial or fungal infections. The milk delivered from a mother dolphin, or some other mammal, to their offspring is also poisoned causing damage to them as well. Other mammals such as otters or seals, suffer
from oil spills as well. The oil is exposed to their fur causing it to lose
body temperature. Therefore, certain mammals can go into hypothermia as well.
It can also dehydrate and poison mammals consuming or inhaling the oil in them
causing death. The oil can also lead to blindness if it goes in their eyes,
making them very vulnerable to predators.
